AZAB
2007
One of 2007's most exciting events in the
yachting calendar started at
1300 on the 2nd June
from Pendennis Point in Falmouth.
Having completed the first leg of the challenge
and taken a few days or so to relax, repair and restock, forty
four of the competing yachts have entered the return leg - racing
one thousand, two hundred and twenty miles back to the finish
line in Falmouth Harbour.
|
Many of them would not see another human
being (other than their skipper or crew) for well over a week.
Open to single and double handed crews the yachts
usually take seven to ten days to complete each leg.

This system, run by Martin Berkeley, is highly commended by the
AZAB committee.Boat owners purchase satellite tracking devices which
are light weight, low cost and cheap to operate. These Inmarsat D+ terminals
are permanently installed and wired to the boat's 12 volt supply. Skippers
control their units via the website, where they can change the reporting
frequency, configure alerts and top-up their airtime credit. For further
